Hello, Fellow Passengers!
This past weekend my two middle kids, my high schoolers, were in a production of The Sound of Music. They were both in the ensemble and were my favorite part of all four shows!
The Sound of Music was my mom’s and my grandma’s favorite musical, which is saying a lot as they both loved musicals and music so passionately.
I’ve watched the movie hundreds of times, and this story always makes me feel deeply connected to these two women who have both passed away in the past five years.
Today’s haiku comic and additional poem are inspired by The Sound of Music and the women who gave me my love of musicals.

Tickled Pink
Mom, I wish you could've seen the kids last night. You would've been tickled pink, as you loved to say. Maybe you still love to say that. It's hard to hear you these days. You would've said to me, Jacey! I'm just so tickled pink to see the kinds in The Sound of Music! Then you would ask me if I remembered watching the movie, and I would smile and say, which time? It was on for weeks at a time. You wore out the tape. I must have seen it hundreds of times, Mom. You would laugh like I was being ridiculuous, and maybe you would lightly slap my arm and tell me to knock it off. Then you would tell me that you remembered watching the movie with your mom in the theater. How the pastor told everyone over the pulpit that Sunday not to go see it and how your mom took you right after church to watch it a second time. But you're not here and the only way I can talk to you is through poetry. And you aren't here to wipe my tears. But it's okay, because last night, I saw a spark of you in the kids as they performed in The Sounds of Music, and I was tickled pink.
Be the poetry you want to see in the world!
Cheers,
Jason
Touching poem. It's a wonderful tribute to your mother and grandmother.
I love the simplicity of your artwork, which proves once again that less is often more. Just great stuff!
