Personal Update
I have an update about my haiku comic book that has been in the works for most of this year.
Due to the prohibitive cost of color printing, I’m not going to publish a full-length book. Instead, I’m going to publish a series of 40-page zines.
WTF is a zine? It’s a kind of micro-publication. (In the U.S. it’s pronounced ‘zeen’, like the end of the word magazine. I hear in the UK it rhymes with sign.)
Zines have a long and intriguing history as underground publications.
I’m making the move to micro-publications for a lot of the projects I have underway. This format gives me more freedom to make cool stuff at affordable prices and still make a decent profit.
However, I still have a few book-length projects I want to do later next year.
Here’s the cover for the first issue:
I’m working with the printer now and should have an official publication date in the next couple of weeks.
Along with the change in my publication plans, I’ve also changed a few things about my business model.
I’m still dedicated to making a full-time living from my creative work. But, instead of trying to think my way through this transition, I’m going to feel my way through.
That means instead of elaborate business plans, I’m just going to focus on making and releasing cool stuff. I’m going to trust that the art I put into the world will bring back what I need to keep going.
I call it Matthew Matthew McConaugheying my way through life.
