Personal Update
One of the hardest things in the world is saying the right thing at the right time. Often in life, we think we want a devastating one-liner that will melt someone we are arguing with into a puddle of humiliation.
This notion always makes me think of this poem I wrote when thinking back about my smartass teenage years:
he had the right quip
at the right time and lived rest
of life with regret
Saying the fun thing is not the same as saying the right thing. As a person who is trying to spend life making the world a more beautiful place, and as a parent to four audacious children, I think a lot about what it means to say the right thing.
Today’s poems are not haiku. They are epigrams—one-liners. Maybe one of them is the right thing for me to say to you today.
NOTE: Make sure to check out the new comic strip I’m experimenting with at the end of this newsletter. It’s called Shortlist. Each strip is a different ridiculous list. Today is a list of documentaries we would all like to see someone make.
Poetry Comics
All of today’s poems are epigrams.
Shortlist
I’m not sure if this is going to be an ongoing series or just an occasional strip. But I like the idea of sharing random lists in comic strips. Part of me wants to create enough of these to release a full collection called Lists Not Liszt. I hope you enjoy my first effort at a four-panel list comic.
Thanks for reading!
Be the weird you want to see in the world!
Thanks,
