Hello Singers of the Song of the Universe!
Don’t forget to look up at the sky from time to time.
in evening sky
Venus, Jupiter and Mars
stunning conjunction
When my children were younger and time moved slower, I would often take them outside to look at the night sky. I showed them the moon, the planets you can see without any special equipment, and a few constellations. Every summer, we still camp out and watch meteor showers.
My kids are all adolescents now—three are teenagers, and the youngest is almost 12. We don’t look at the stars as often.
This evening right after dinner, all six of us were outside getting some stuff together to help Becky recuperate from her surgery that’s happening tomorrow.
I was busy unloading stuff from the car, and they were chatting with each other, looking up at the not-quite-dark sky. E had her phone out and was pointing it at the sky. I kept working.
I was heading back inside when K asked me if I’d seen the sky. I looked up and realized something special was happening. I could see Mars near the moon, and I saw Venus lined up a bit behind it. In between was a star I wasn’t certain of; the kids told me the app said it was Jupiter.
I marveled at the sky with my kids for a while, grateful that they had reminded me to look up.
Cheers,
Jason
P.S. With Becky’s surgery happening tomorrow, I may be a bit slow in responding to emails and comments for a few days. I will still be posting daily haiku comics. I will respond to everyone as soon as possible. Thanks for understanding.
P.P.S. In case you missed it, yesterday I launched my new book of haiku comics, Wild Divinity. You can find out everything you need to know about the book here, including where to buy your copy.
“When time moved slower” is the most beautiful phrase I’ve read this week.
We love our Planets app. We feel closer to the stars and planets. Grateful we live in a Dark Skies area of N AZ. Keep us posted on Becky's progress.
