Hello, Fellow New Year’s Pilgrims
I always find transitions to be sacred. As we end one year and begin another, I wanted to let you know what is in store for Weirdo Poetry. Below the haiku comic is a brief bullet point breakdown. More details will be rolled out during the coming year. This is the first (and the last) year in the past 25 years that I’ve worked a full schedule during the last week of the year.
So as to not bury the lead, I’m staying here on Substack to keep fighting to make this space and the rest of the world a better place. However, I’m also expanding Weirdo Poetry beyond the confines of Substack.

Plan for 2024 In-Brief
I’m keeping the Weirdo Poetry Newsletter on Substack—but I have an exit plan ready to execute should this platform become unbearable.
On January 15, 2024, the price for a newsletter subscription is going up to $7 a month or $70 a year—CURRENT PAID SUBSCRIBERS AND NEW PAID SUBSCRIBERS WHO JOIN BEFORE 1/25/24 WILL BE LEGACIED INTO THEIR CURRENT PRICE STRUCTURE.
In 2024, paid subscribers will get access to my new asynchronous poetry book club and the 3,500 haiku project, while still getting exclusive posts with pictures of my poetry/art notebooks and free digital versions of every book and zine I publish.
I’m launching a haiku workshop membership program that will include all the benefits of being a paid newsletter subscriber plus a ton of other, more personal benefits.
I’m going to be hosting monthly haiku competitions, with humble prizes.
The focus of the newsletter will be sharpened to using poetry to increase creativity, wonder, and mindfulness.
I will be expanding the amount of books and zines I publish, and greatly increasing my direct sales, allowing me to better serve readers all over the world, especially in countries like Australia where I’ve struggled to keep my physical books available.
I will be offering more prints and other physical products in my shop.
I will launch my first Kickstarter in the first half of the year.
Everything above is part of my new focus on transforming Weirdo Poetry into my full-time business. I’m transitioning out of most of my freelance copywriting work and working on building Weirdo Poetry into a publishing and creativity-boosting business. I will still be doing freelance writing and illustration work, but only in service of clients whose creative visions excite me.
I will be delivering more of what you’ve come to expect from me, plus showcasing even more of my weird ideas and creativity.
Happy New Year!
Be the weird you want to see in the world!
Cheers,
Jason
