Personal Update
Spring is here with a vengeance in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. That means I get to tell myself 100 times a day that I’m suffering from allergies, not COVID, most likely.
I’m still learning to balance my creative vocation of being an indie author/poet/comic creator with my day job as a copywriter and my responsibilities as the primary caretaker of our four children (10th grade, 8th grade, 6th grade, and 4th grade).
Our school district is doing hybrid school for the rest of the year. While I’m grateful the kids get to see their friends and their teachers in person, in a safe way, I’m finding managing a hybrid schedule more taxing than an all-digital learning schedule.
On April 15th I will be launching my Cosmic Wayfarer series in the paid version of the newsletter!
This will be my first foray into serialized fiction comics. To paraphrase Little Red Riding Hood from Into the Woods, I’m excited—well excited and scared.
Poetry Comics
In honor of National Poetry Month, I will occasionally be illustrating poems that I love that have passed into the public domain. This week I have a selection of Emily Dickinson poems.
Step Boldly Into Curiosity
If you want to step boldly into your curiosity, I recommend you read Tracy K. Smith’s poetry collection, Life on Mars. The poems are beautiful. You’ll find homages to David Bowie, as well as tributes to Smith’s father who worked on the Hubble Space Telescope.
Smith is a two-time poet laureate of the United States, and Life on Mars won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 2012.
Be the weird you want to see in the world!
Thanks,
Jason
