One of my most frequent recurring, intrusive thoughts as a child was the idea that all of us actually were part of a zoo exhibit on an alien world.
I’m not sure where this idea came from—probably some mix of cartoons, comic books, and my overactive imagination—but it stressed me out.
I first remember worrying about being on exhibit when I was nine years old. But the sensation and the thoughts came and went frequently until I was 16. I never told anyone about my fears.
The thoughts stopped when I finally decided that whether or not I was on display, I would live my life the way I wanted to.

Personal Update
I’ve been locked in combat with my lizard brain the past several days. I’m finally gaining the upper hand. My projects are still on target, mostly because I’ve finally learned to build mental health delays into my publication plans.
I hope all of you are safe. COVID is on the rise everywhere these days, including my wife’s hospital. Please get vaccinated if you can. Be safe and kind.
Thanks for reading!
Be the weird you want to see in the world!
Thanks,
