What would it be like to work a dead-end job on the Moon?
Sometimes I think about strange things like these
“I’m almost 45 years old and I still daydream.”
That’s what I told the rental car guy when he asked me why I was a poet.
A couple of weeks ago, someone ran into our van while they were parking. The van was still driveable, and they were kind enough to leave a note under the windshield wiper.
But we still needed to get the damage fixed. Their insurance is paying for our rental car while our van gets fixed.
The rental car place needed the name of my employer. I said that I was self-employed. He sighed, people who have forms to fill out do that a lot when I say I’m self-employed. He told me he just needed the name of my business.
I could’ve told him any number of true things. What came out of my mouth was, “Weirdo Poetry.”
I had to say the name three times. It was like a spell.
The guy couldn’t help himself. He looked up from his forms and made eye contact with me for the first time and asked what my business did.
I explained that I created poetry comics. That’s when he asked why I was a poet.
Today I have a different kind of poetry comic for you. It’s a longer, narrative poem. It’s part of a collection of space-themed poems I’m working on. Let me know in the comments what you think.
Poetry Comic
Personal Update
Thanks to all of you that have purchased copies of Haiku Pop: I Stare at the Sea. It makes me smile to know that people enjoy my stuff. It also motivates me to keep creating.
I officially launch the zine later this week. The second issue will come out on August 28th. I’m hoping my collection of space poems will be ready to publish in September, but it’s too soon to announce a specific launch date.
While I work to keep publishing new stuff regularly, I will also continue to post pages from my work all over social media.
The real battle for any writer, poet, or artist is discoverability. There’s a lot of noise and it’s hard to get anyone to see your work. I’d rather give my work away and build an audience of fans than create things that no one ever reads.
Please feel free to share these emails with anyone you think might like them.
Thanks for all of your support.
Be the weird you want to see in the world!
Thanks,
Jason
Oh wow!! Absolutely love this!!!!
