Hello, Stargazers!
Have you ever seen the Milky Way?
night on the mountain
Milky Way sprawls overhead
children stare in awe
That is the Milky Way
We climbed out of our tent
in the middle of the night and
headed for a mountain clearing,
giggling with anticipation.
I pointed up to the narrow band
of white and blue light in the sky
and whispered, “That is the Milky Way.”
We bathed in the solemn silence.
Artist Note
Today I have two short poems inspired by the same event, a camping trip with my two oldest children many, many years ago.
My father-in-law is still in the hospital, dealing with the after-effects of a stroke, and it’s unclear whether he will make it. He’s 85, and recovery now depends on his will. I look at the decision he faces with the same ignorant awe my young children had when they saw the edge of our galaxy in the sky for the first time.
Be the poetry you want to see in the world!
Cheers,
Jason
I’m so sorry about your father-in-law. Sending prayers (yes, I pray!) to him and you and your family.
It's too big for my comprehension. . .yesss.
