Hey Y’all!
The ocean is my Narnia!
When I was ten years old, I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and a Wrinkle in Time, and the same thing bugged me about both books.
How could anyone go on an adventure like that and ever find happiness again in their ordinary world?
Now, I suppose it’s the same as when I go on vacation and then return home. At first, I might be sad that my day’s agenda includes going to the grocery store instead of swimming in the warm, turquoise water of the Caribbean.
The first few days back are awful, but humans are nothing if not adaptable. You get quickly get used to dull drudgery.
You don’t have to live like that.
We live in a world that is littered with portals to other places. Books and movies are two common ways to escape from the demands of productivity and polite society.
But, if you want a real adventure—if you want to go someplace like Narnia—you must keep your eyes open, your imagination keyed, and your wits about you.
Every time I go to the ocean, I’m transported to another existence. And just like the worlds in books, time works differently in these other places. I live a thousand lives and return to find only a few hours have passed.
Your mileage may vary, of course. But I bet that somewhere near you is a door waiting just for you, and on the other side of that door is a fantastical realm of wonder.
Be the weird you want to see in the world!
Cheers,
Jason
