Yay I’m not the only one!! My favorite is when Mrs Brown says it! I laughed at one clip someone sent me. She and her friend were discussing Sex on the beach & she had also found a ….. “rubber” and the whole thing made me laugh until I cried!!
I should've mentioned that as I was making the first comic, I was thinking about all of your brilliant reductions and wondering how I could present the street lights and the road in a more abstract way.
What I love about this set is how the poems take panels of abstract art and turn them into ... traffic lights! reflections on asphalt! molecules! hallways! ... things that (okay, except maybe for the molecules) aren't abstract a bit ... except in the sense that they can mean more than themselves, and that your readers can look at the images and read the words and each get a different picture in their head of hallway or molecule or wet asphalt or traffic lights. (Whereas, when I read your haiku about birds and see your illustrations of them, well, THOSE are the birds in the poems, that's what they look like!)
Thanks for your thoughtful comments! When I first started tinkering with poetry comics I only made abstract ones because I didn’t trust my ability to illustrate them in any other way. Now I’m more comfortable and confident with my techniques, I find that I have the skills to make better abstract art than before. Soon, I’m going to try some surreal-ish poetry comics!
Very cool Jason.
Thanks, Julie!
I enter dark woods.
Moss grows on north side of trees.
I am lost encompassing thought.
I love this! That last line hits me very hard!
Climb Bradbury mountain
Tough journey
But accomplished with tact.
Another good one, Richard!
Love this panel configuration.
I’m not sure what counts for experimental haiku as it’s all experimental for me right now. But I did write this one at 1:30 this morning
These early morning
Awakenings have to stop
Fecking menopause
(Edit note. Note the F word I used. Just trying to clean it up a bit. It sounds a lil better with an Irish brogue 🤷🏻♀️😊)
This is a good one, Zeralda! I do love the use of the word fecking 🤣
Haha. Thanks Jason. I’m liking fecking more and more

To the surprise of no one, I love the art accompanying these haiku. All three are fantastic!

Hah! Lord knows you don't need any help from me. Really like this one, not just the art, the verse, the whole thing!!
The traffic light is fantastic.
Newspaper editors, I would buy a physical document just to see these on paper! But I also like them here Jason thank you
Thanks!
Love these Jason and hearing you read is a treat.
Thank you! I'm always trying to add new things to the experience here.
These should also be windows in libraries.
I would love that!
Real abstraction,
Real as you are and I,
But are we real.
I like how this haiku feels like a philosophical puzzle. Are we just real abstractions?
They come out at night
They bring fear when darkness falls
Shadow People dance
This is a so good, Pamela! I love the creepy vibe of the haiku, and that middle line is perfect.
Thank you Jason - I enjoyed writing this one. The Shadow People popped into my head first 😂
These are so great! I really enjoyed the shift into abstract subject matter, so fun.
Thanks! I like to mix things up from time to time! Keeps me young
“lonely, wet asphalt
gleams with tri-color splendor
from traffic lights“
I’ll think of these lines when I drive in the rain tomorrow. I already know how it’s going to look. Thanks, as always, for the inspiration!
Thank you!
