Jason, it's easy to forget that for many winter is arriving. We have had snow on the ground since Halloween but we do get warm days now and again. Winter here in the Rockies is always at least 6 months long. Couple years ago we had 10" of snow in early October and the last snow was 22" on Mother's Day.
If you have not seen it on any of the 500 other places I have put it - the Shortest Day of the year, the First Day of Winter - is the day I came kicking and Screaming into this world!
After seeing how I share that birthday with the late great Frank Zappa - it all made sense!! Don’t blame me, I was born into it!!
Thank you Jason! I always thought so! I have a few others, not quite as cool - Phil Donahue, Baseballs Dave Kingman, Chris Evert & Jane Fonda - quite a selection of all different kinds of people. Frank Zappa is definitely the coolest!
Loved this. And I'm impressed with how you recognise the owl. We have one in the neighbourhood that I sometimes hear. But I wouldn't know what type it is. Your poem reminded me of the beautiful nights on which I hear the owl and can see the moon and stars.

That's a lot of snow! I was born in Idaho and lived for a time in Colorado Springs and I much prefer the winters closer to the Pacific ocean.
