Yes! There’s a lot to think about here. Freedom and the kite that’s tethered to the ground by a string. This haiku opens the door to a lot of images and ideas
Do you know the book Illusions by Sebastian Bach? Remember the opening allegory about the crabs which cling to the river bank, and see one floating past? You've reminded me of it.
Thank you Jason! This is a great reminder and prompt. I think I’ll play with some haiku writing to strengthen my personal reflection writing. And I loved the celestial crabs. It’s one of my favorite haikus I’ve read from you yet.
My son wrote me a haiku, it's his favorite kind of poem. He is 7:
Mamas are respectful
She makes me laugh all the time
Coaches my sports team
That’s a great one! Haiku are so fun to write! I’m glad your son is enjoying them.
irises blooming
in a ditch after the rain
flooded with beauty
Wow! That’s great! I love the contrasting images here, the rain, the irises and the flood of beauty.
Should roots strive for blooms
Seeking an undue glory
Both roots and purpose wither
That’s deep! I love the wisdom embedded in your contrast of blooms and roots. Great haiku
Thanks for the prompt!
Ha! here's one about tension in the comments section.
Comment on my post
I'll make sure to reply soon
Or maybe never
I feel that tension every time I post!
Fly fly fly a kite
Busy mind, thinking, thinking
Find freedom within

I have a tattoo on my foot of a kite... its there to keep me grounded!
I never write Haikus, yet I got inspired by all the comments and your post! This was very fun to do. I wrote two of them!
The day Summer bloomed
a mosquito sucked and sucked
the pop off my arm.
Here I am trying
writing my way through this life
with two tired hands.
I love both of these! I especially feel your second poem. Somedays are a real struggle when you're trying to write your way through life
Thank you! You inspire me!! I will definitely be writing haikus now!

I haven't read Illusions before. I'm going to to see if I can get a copy and read it this summer. It looks great!
Oh it's magic - one of those books that is more than the sum of its parts. Let me know your responses to it.

Thanks! I hope you have fun with your haiku writing. It's a great way to fine tune details in personal reflective writing.
