Bravo Jason!!! No matter what others want we always need to BE WHO WE ARE. I spent far too many years (20) with a husband who swore he loved me how I was - yet every minute of every day he tried to change me. He should have let me be me & we might still be together but he didn’t or couldn’t or wouldn’t…. But it is true that a life well lived and all that ish.

I vote for you to be your best self-period. Bd your best self and do what makes you happy.

I am sorry you are dealing with something difficult & painful. If there is anything I can help with, listen to or swear about - I have experienced it!! As a fellow weirdo, you are such a decent person and deserve happiness!

Interesting! Fascinating! And yes, weird! I have never heard of Haiku comics, but I don't read comics! So, you must enlighten and educate me!

Expand full comment

Thanks! Haiku comics are just where I take a standard haiku and illustrate it with a comic strip. Sometimes I use the classic four-panel format and other times I get more creative. Making haiku comics is my primary creative output these days!

Hi Jason, If you are creating what you like, writing what you like, which feeds your soul and your conscience, you will be in harmony with yourself.

You might still have financial problems--this is the artistic life--but you will have independence and autonomy. And I think, enjoyment and happiness.

I can't overemphasize how important that is. The worst kind of mistakes humans make in the work world is to take a job because it pays more.

Thanks, Perry! I've already made that mistake once when I started my professional life as a lawyer--it almost killed me. My current financial straits are a bit urgent, but I also know they won't last forever. It's been the work of a lifetime to be in harmony with myself, and my art definitely a key part of the puzzle

Understand; started as an engineer for 10 years.

That's the same length as my law career! Must be something about a decade that forces one to get out while the getting is still good.

What a wonderful update, Jason! Really enjoyed your editorial comics as well - I’d never considered how well that application works, but now I’ll be wishing there was a haiku comic in just about every article I read 🤣 Best wishes with these new changes, it all sounds like a great track 💕

Thanks! Now I just need to convert more people (especially editors) to the idea of editorial haiku comics! 🤣

Master of the word and master of the art! As I thought, this was helpful for me to read as well. Having a clear idea of what you like and saying it out loud. The one that spoke to me was the detour in our lives. Deep stuff! Thank you Jason. If you put clear intentions and plans in writing and sharing with us, we'll hold you accountable! (This is a promise). Thanks for the inspiration!
