Hello April Showers!
What are the place names where you live that outsiders always pronounce wrong?
the raindrop ripples
radiate out over the
Willamette River
I live in the Willamette Valley, take frequent walks along the Willamette River, and went to law school at Willamette University College of Law. I’ve found that many people are unsure how to pronounce this place name.
It’s easy, Willamette rhymes with damn it.
There is something soothing about large bodies of water. Rivers, lakes, and oceans possess a healing power for me. Time spent near these places always leaves me feeling calmer and more sure about my path forward.
Cheers,
Jason
Loved this haiku, Jason. I feel the same way about large bodies of water. They rejuvenate the soul!
haha, I definitely pronounced it Will-a-meta. I grew up in South Florida and you could always tell a tourist by how they pronounced Kissimmee. Emphasis on the s, not the K. Not Kiss-a-me, but ka-Sim-ee.
