Oh this warms my heart in so many ways Jason!! I know I mention my Uncle - The Bird man from CC, KY. I was in awe of him up until my high school years. At that point I was too “cool” to say anything about him. I did learn that cool was not really “cool”.

I have the article from the newspaper but of course it is in a box in the garage. But I DO have a picture of my better half with a hummingbird on his hand which I will post this early morning as long as it is the right size.

The hummingbird had flown into our window and I thought it was dead as is was on the ground not moving. Matt picked it up so gently and cupped it in his hand and lightly rubbed its chest. He (I determined the bird was male 🙄) and he sat on Matt’s fingertip for several moments. It seriously brought tears to my eyes it was such a beautiful sight.

I and wordy this morning because there are so many things I related to today.

I was always the one who won at trivia games too. My office mates had a standing trivial pursuit night. We took turns hosting it.

At first I had to take turns being on the blue team & red. At first they laugh about my “useless” knowledge. I was a curious child as well. It wasn’t something I thought was different. I thought Everyone wanted to know STUFF. I had to know what words meant if I heard or read a new one. I loved learning things like language. I am not sure why I never learned another language.

Moving to AZ, I saw a lot of new birds. The Road Runner blew my mind! I never realized how large they are!! The Grackles are LOUD. The mocking bird says good night and good morning. The owls will take pets if people don’t keep them inside in the dark. One took up residence in our Palm tree. Just so many in this suburban neighborhood I did not know well before.

I do believe we may be kindred spirits!

I will be quiet now, but I absolutely loved today’s events!

Thank you -

How is your son? I’m hoping for improvement and wishing good health for him ♥️

Thanks you! I think paying attention to birds somehow changes a person. It's almost like witchcraft. My son is doing better than he was, but still not good enough to get through a day of school. We're waiting to hear back from a couple of specialists and are switching meds again.

I think you're right, we may be kindred spirits!

I would love to see that photo, but I don't think Substack allows images to be posted in comments.

No worries - if I get it posted on my Substack I will let you know. I never notice so much about birds until I hand raised a cockatiel. Shiloh was amazing! He is what made me enjoy birds as an adult!

Hopeful and easier days to come for your family we feel every pain for our children. My favorite thing in the whole world was while I carried my boys - the first time - that first Everythinc - kick, roll, foot sticking out I was mesmerized and played with both before they were born. I knew them long before they came to earth!!

Dear Jason, I have learned more from my delightful Dadapedia husband than from any other source. In fact, between our various curiosities, we have connected with many other sources of knowledge that have enriched our lives with their "useless information." Like you, he claims to be a fount of useless information; but it makes for entertaining conversations, something truly lacking in our world today. Most people can't talk about anything beyond the walls of their houses, and even there, mysteries abound inside the walls. You and I are both keyed into Nature, unlike most people. We are the prophets in the wilderness who can share information, however limited, for those who have yet to discover Nature's beauty. And at 48, dearJason, YOU ARE FAR FROM OLD!

Someone on FB credited Frank Sinatra with saying: "If you are the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room."

Thanks, Sue! I keep trying to convince my teens that I'm not old yet, but they're not buying it. 🤣

I love that quote! If we're able to quiet our egos, we can learn something from everyone.
