While in undergrad, seeking my degree in philosophy, I took 19th Century Kantian Philosophy as a course. That course alone almost destroyed my love for philosophy, but it also seems to be one of two classes I go back to when I need a refresh.
Kant. We lovingly referred to him as a vulgar word that sounds kinda like his name except starts with a C. 😂😂😂 it was an incredibly difficult class and deciphering his works was so tedious. I often felt like he talked us in circles.
Not to mention the end of semester essay was a presentation and my professor stood up after my presentation and told me I was completely wrong in my interpretation. Then made me talk it out til I was on the right track. Talk about the stuff nightmares are made of.
That’s brutal! In undergrad political science we only had to contend with the relatively straight forward Locke and Hume and dabbled with Foucault. But that presentation you had to give sounds like the stuff of nightmares!
While the Oversole might be helpful, do be careful of the Undersole, Jason. That being walks in some pretty shady places. 😉 Seriously, though, great post and Haiku today.
Thanks Dascha! I've been known to hang out in some pretty shady places myself. Now, I'm going to be thinking about the Undersole all day as I walk around :)
Got a laugh out of imagining Emerson pissed off in the afterlife. But yeah, surrendering the ego-self is a huge part of my life learning. Still learning. Glad I can get new soles for the continued journey. Thanks for not crushing me (yet) vengeful gods!
Thank you!

Thanks for the inspiration to revisit!
Thanks for reading!
I'm curious, was it the subject matter (Kant) or the course itself that almost destroyed your love for philosophy?

Hume is one of my favorites. And you’re right, they’re all fairly straightforward. It was certainly theeee hardest philosophy class I ever took
It's an honour to have helped with your inspiration! Great poetry as always!
Thank you!
This one made me laugh, in a good way.
I'm glad! My biggest beef with poets is that some of us take poetry way to seriously

The holding into ego is what always gets me in trouble!
You sent me on a deep dive; I'll be back! 🌊
Have fun and stay safe! I'm excited the hear about what you learn on your dive
I’m in it for the weird, see you on the other side of normal. We can waffle about our soles/souls.
Sounds great!
Absolutely brilliant poem.
Thank you for creating this and making me laugh today.
My pleasure! Thanks for reading!
