“Together we will surface you’ll see” power of poetry to rise and reach a level of understanding the situation at hand. You may reach rock bottom, but grab some mud. Rise to surface and show the world your depth of perception.

I love that last line, "Rise to surface and show the world your depth of perception."!

This is a wonderful poem, truly! Double doff to the sea, and family.

There is something striking about this poem paired with the art you included. The art is simple, not pieced together like your typical collage...just the water.

Thanks! I'm working on getting the balance right between my natural maximalist artistic tendencies and better serving the whole when less is called for.

Into the Sea to free the Child. "free the Child" The riptide must have felt like a kidnaping. How terrifying to be kidnaped by the Sea. Your Dad's advice helped you save your own life.

Mine was not a rip-tide. Mine was a public swimming pool with big people laughing and splashing all around me. So glad I read this again today. It was a difficult read last night, but today, I realize now, that I learned a lot about keeping my wits, pushing panic aside, that day in the pool. Thank you.
