I agree! He seems like the most fun of the haiku masters, and the one who best understands how to enjoy life even when life keeps punching you in the gut.
I've only read a fraction of his poems (I think I've read around 2,500) but his style and biography fascinate me. Last I checked, most of his haiku haven't even been translated into English yet. I'm thinking of doing a more in-depth look at him, a more disciplined, better researched write-up as part of a potential series of 40-page illustrated zines that currently have the working title, "Poet Fanzines".
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading!
Thanks for the insight. It’s time to swap the traditionally serious tone in my haiku for lighthearted fun. Just in time for summer!
It's time for whites, linens, and funny haiku!
I love Issa's poems, they feel so fresh, and he seems like someone I would have liked to know.

This newsletter edition is absolutely wonderful and necessary for me to read today!! A good reminder that humor is definitely worthwhile!!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Thanks!
Love Issa, and thank you for the reminder to seek humor and a light-hearted attitude!
Sometimes, I think Issa was a much more modern poet than he's usually thought of. Humor is often the only way I can get through hard things.
