It was a big loss. The ice storm knocked out our power for 10 days and took down scores of trees and major branches on our tiny rural street. The cleanup took months and this spring I’m only now feeling pang of some of our missing trees. The cherry tree had been here longer than us. The plum tree I had given up on, I had planted 15 years ago. The good news is today I was out working on my trees and I think I can save the plum tree that I was sure was a lost cause. It’s going to take a lot of care, but I’m up for it now
Losing trees are like losing long term friends. Voles took out our ornamental cherry last year-not cool! Glad you got your groove back with Cosmic Traveler. Like your strip for the cherry; maybe it got grafted into a apple tree!👍
I’m glad you enjoy these poetry comics! Ooh voles are my nemesis. I’m sorry they got your cherry tree. You are so right about losing a tree being like losing a long term friend. They only leave a whole in the landscape, but their loss also leaves a whole in the soul.
I loved Overstory too! I read it over the pandemic. It was a a particularly good Spring in 2020 and it was the first time I was really able to appreciate my garden. Within 2 days of lockdown, the garden was full of wildlife (the roads were quiet, no hustle and bustle). A deer even came once.
That is one of the things that I *miss* about lockdown. A generally slower pace of life... I’ve tried to keep something of that for myself as we re-entered ‘normality’, but it’s hard to go against the cultural flow...
Something missing?, Your haiku is 5 7 6, isn't? pretty one though
It’s 5-7-5. Each of the words in the last line are one syllable.
thes/torms/tole/our/tree right? hmm I took the s of stole as a syllable 😁
Syllables are often tricky like that.
I loved The Overstory too!! I'm delighted you're persisting in sharing your own voice!! Keep going!! 💙
Thank you! Your encouragement means a lot!
Sad to read about your cherry tree. The ornamental cherries growing all around our area are blooming. They're so pretty!

It’s amazing how close we are to nature, if we would all just slow down.
