Thank you so much for this article. I lost my father last autumn, but I inherited the love for words and for writing from him, which always carried us through our difficulties. 17 years ago he showed me how much he really cared about me after a Hollywood-eske break up and since then till his death we became much closer again. Your post reminded me of that!
This is a wonderful post. And I imagine that you are giving your children a wonderful gift with your writing and art.
This book club. I love baseball and I'm actually taking a haiku workshop on Tuesday. It seems like a bit of synchronicity. I'd love to know more about the book club.
Thank you! The deal with the Asynchronous Book Club, is every month I pick a poetry book we will all read. I alternate between haiku books and other types of poetry books. Then on Sundays, I write a post about a section of the book, often I illustrate a poem from that selection, and we all talk about the poems in the comments. Since it is asynchronous, people are able to read and comment any time, even months after. In January we did the Richard Wright haiku collection. In March we did a collection of Jack Keroauc's haiku. Next Sunday, I will have the details for the July book, Baseball Haiku, as well as the list of the poetry books for the next several months.
Thank you, Toby! I'm fortunate to have such wonderful children and that they have such a wonderful mother working with me to shepherd them into adulthood
Thanks! I thought of you right away when reading about his notes. I would love to learn more about them and his haiku process. At one point, Julia describes him hanging up his notebook sheets of haiku to dry.
I had no idea Richard Wright wrote haiku!
They are so, incredibly good! His haiku collection is definitely worth reading!
Thank you for the recommendation!
Reflections are not only found in mirrors.
That's the truth!

Thank you for sharing that! I'm honored my post could rekindle those warm memories

Very moving. You are clearly a good and loving father with more than usual depth. ❤️
