Hi Haiku Freinds!
As I was working on today’s poetry comic (Day 6 of my 14-day challenge), I kept hearing the beautiful sound of crunched autumn leaves. I’m 46 years old, and I still feel like a gleeful child when I have the chance to crunch a series of dead leaves under my feet.
While I haven’t officially cataloged them, the sound of walking over dead leaves has to be one of my favorite nature sounds. (The call of the great horned owl is up there too.)
This poem also reminded me of the White Stripes’s song, Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground, which I love for the imagery and for the electric fuzz of Jack White’s guitar.
What about you? What nature sounds do you love?
Thanks for reading these comics and supporting me during this project. Please feel free to share these posts with anyone you think might enjoy them.

What a great post, Jason! The illustration is beautiful. My favorite nature sound is the call of the Gambel’s Quail, beloved in Arizona.
I'm a big fan of taking hikes in the fall. The sounds of the leaves crunching underfoot. The smell of decay that leads eventually to renewal. The crisp air that lends a certain blue gray tinge to all the colors. All remind you of our mortal coil and how precious the cycle of life is.
