What Brings You Joy?
A review of a year of haiku comics & the last haiku prompt of the year
Hello, Friends!
This year at Weirdo Poetry is ending in a way I did not expect. I was hoping to go out with a few more original comics. However, due to some family medical issues that require a lot of my attention, this will be my last post until January 2, 2024.
In January, I will be back with a vengeance! There will be new comics, new poems, and new features for both paying and free subscribers!
I hope you all have a joyful winter solstice and holiday season.
Below are some of the haiku comics from this year about things that have brought me the most joy. I’ve selected two from each month.
I would love it if you would share your own haiku about things that bring you joy in the comments!
January
the ocean sermon filled with fury, given to a lone congregant fell into night sky swallowed by a sea of stars beached on wonder's shores
February
caterpillar melts inside secret chrysalis goo to butterfly kids plus ping pong balls turns any room into a makeshift physics lab
March
the peaceful sunset was prelude to arrival of the invaders twirling and whirling crashing, smashing, collapsing the thoughts in my mind
April
the raindrop ripples radiate out over the Willamette River floating through this life, eternal, empty expanse, searching for signs of life
May
children keep secrets in the spaces between blades of summer grass petal pirouettes, riding the wind from tree branch to sidewalk below
June
inbetween nowhere, jalopies pass each other divided highway the moon's reflection illuminated pond and our nocturnal tryst
July
soft quilt covers sky white tips of gray ocean waves crash onto the beach sing an ocean hymn mysterious, dark, and deep feel primeval pull
August
have you even lived if you haven't almost died in the ocan at least once? some used to believe birds migrated to the moon and spent winter there
September
adult dragonflies will not survive end of autumn but today they fly I wander between conifers and the cosmos discovering clues
October
serenaded by a chorus of coastal grass led by a zephyr meal for a squirrel a perfect tiny acorn seed of a forest
November
stirring at midnight full moon and Jupiter sing celestial ballad migration rest stop-- flock of geese waddle in grass, lone seagull strolls through
December
the moon on their wings, wild geeese honking as they soar-- the sounds of music an eternal field hosts amaranthine blossoms that smell of sure love
Be the weird and the poetry you hope to see in the world!
Thank you for a wonderful year of Weirdo Poetry!
Please share your haiku about joy in the comments!
Cheers,
Jason
