I love the idea of waypoints opposed to “goals” because firm deadlines with projects (especially creative ones) can lead to unnecessary burnout and stress. I’m going to adopt this immediately. Thanks for this, Jason!
The most important part of my creative process is taking care of my body and mind. The best way for me to relieve stress is to exercise and get outside. Once I start feeling anxious, or sad, or without hope, it affects my creativity. That’s when my writing droughts happen. I chase those demons out of my system by running or biking - by something active. Anything. Then my mind is in a better state and I’m able to get creative again.
Physical activity outside is a must for me as well. I try and go for long walks every day. It's funny how many creative problems get sorted out on my walks.
The waypoints are definitely it for me. I’ve even stopped getting too detailed about process this year. Simply letting creativity lead me wherever it feels like.
Good to have you back, Jason, and get some insight into your end of summer soul search!
When I was 19, I read a book called the Tao of Pooh. It was about the relationship between Taoism and A.A. Milne's character Winnie the Pooh. It changed my life and then I kind of forgot about it. I've recently been relearning Taoist philosophy and find that the only effort I need to make is to get into the flow. Then I need to let go. The more I struggle the more I get in my own way.
Jason, good question: "What is your most important creative process? Think about the last time you revised your process. What can you do to make sure that your creative process is serving you in all the ways that you need?"
Thanks for encouraging me to think this through, and examine my next steps. I have allowed world events since 2020 (to the present) to mute my Muse. I'm struggling to write, as I'm trying to use an old process.
Your prompt is timely. I'll take some quiet time in nature (we live near the national forest) to review and revise my creative process. I already sense that my writing and I are going to go in a much different direction than in the past.
Great looking t-shirts and stickers!
Why did you choose RedBubble? I'm curious as I may be looking for a Merch option in the future.
The goings on in the world certainly do make it hard to create. Nature is such a powerful source of creative energy for me. I try and go to the ocean as often as I can just to watch the waves.
I've been creating t-shirts for several years on both Amazon Merch and Redbubble. I think Redbubble is easier to use and they have stickers where Amazon does not. I really wanted these comics as stickers!
I'm in the process of starting my own Shopify store by the end of the month. There I will be able to sell shirts, my books (both physical and digital), stickers, and maybe some other print on demand products.

Oh, and I love the shirts! They look great!
Thanks!

Great to have you back and I ❤️ the swag!
Thanks! It's great to be back!
I just ordered he Hope t-shirt. The haiku is one of my favorites.
Thanks! That means a lot. I hope you enjoy the shirt as much as I enjoyed writing the haiku and designing the shirt!
