Hello, Stardust!
Starting today, I’m serializing my haiku comic collection, Wild Divinity, in this newsletter. For the next twelve Wednesdays, I will share a portion of the book.
Wild Divinity was published January 30, 2023. It was a crazy experiment that changed the course of my career. I have completed work on a second full collection of haiku comics that is currently under consideration with a small press, having already made it through the first round. (I have no idea how many rounds of consideration there will be 🤣)
I organized Wild Divinity differently from the way most haiku collections are laid out. Instead of different sections for each season, I run through the year over and over again. Instead of starting with spring, as is traditional, the first comic is a summer haiku, followed by a fall haiku, then a winter haiku, and finally a spring haiku. This cycle is repeated all through the book. Every four poems complete a seasonal cycle.
However, there are only 107 haiku comics in the book because I wanted the cycle to be incomplete as a reminder that life is a work in progress.
Wild Divinity is available in physical form here.
What I didn’t understand when I first was making these comics and when I initially published this collection was that Wild Divinity is a kind of diary of my search for spiritual meaning as I was in the process of leaving the religion I was born into.
I will make a portion of each part of this Wild Divinity series free for everyone, but only paid subscribers will get the full experience.
Enjoy!
