Terrific poem! I love seeing the Milky Way. It never feels real.

Red Rock Canyon

Las Vegas, Nevada

Dusk at the Canyon

What I Imagine the landscape was like centuries ago.

In twilight's soft glow,

Red Rock's secrets come alive,

Whispers of ages past.

Before neon's gleam,

Paiute dreams danced on the land,

Moon their only lamp.

Mystical shadows,

Cast by fires of ancient tribes,

Flicker with stories told.

Canyon walls listened,

To the songs of old spirits,

Nature's lullabies.

Coyotes, their kin,

Sang to stars in sacred rites,

Night's ethereal choir.

Dreams woven in air,

By ancestors of the dunes,

Winds carry their tales.

In the canyon's heart,

Paiute souls softly slumber,

Guarded by stone giants.

Dawn's first gentle rays,

Kiss the land they once called home,

A tribute to times long gone.

Beneath sun and moon,

Red Rock holds their legacy,

A mystical embrace eternal.

So much fun!

What do you think of swapping out duet for ballad

stirring at midnight

full moon and Jupiter sing

celestial ballad (duo)

Expand full comment
author

I like duet! Writing this I was stuck in hymn, but couldn’t make the syllables work. But I never thought of celestial duet, that fits better with moon and Jupiter.

Porch light. Moths gather.

Delicate lace wings are spread

Catching faux moonlight.

Perfect! I love thinking of the porch light as faux moonlight. Great haiku!

Inspiration strikes

at 3am - thoughts, ideas,

I love this! I love the image of "ink swirls on the page". It captures the dreamlike state I feel at 3 a.m. when inspiration strikes!

A long time ago I started a webcomic called 3 a.m. thoughts that was kind of a surreal look at all the weird stuff that came to me in the middle of the night. Maybe there's a way to bring that back. 🤔

Thank you so much!

Ooh I love the sound of that! 3am is definitely a strange time of night when inspiration tends to pay us a visit

Night snuck in softly

Like a thief stealing the light

Holding it til dawn

celestial bodies

Watching the slow dance til dawn

Sun breaks free to shine

The thief will come back

The darkness takes over now

An eternal dance

The dark and the light

In A beautiful sky dance

free show for our eyes

Thank you Jason. I have a question. Am I the only one that writes poems or anything as it comes me.I don’t plan things. I just start writing and let it roll. Is that how everyone writes?

I think everyone has their own writing process. I don't usually plan anything with a poem at first. I write and see what comes, later I go back and sometimes find a particular form hiding and then reshape the poem to fit that hidden vision.

Thank you - no matter what I write I hear a word or phrase that I will write -and keep going until I feel myself forcing it. I try to make sure before Sharing it that it flows smoothly. Have always been curious about how others write
